Ekphrasis: Writers Responding to Art

Poem for “Sun-Drenched Vineyard”

With found language from Anne Cameron Cutri artist notes

Pennsylvania vineyards—
so many rolling hills
covered with yards and yards of light.
Anne Cameron Cutri tracts vineyards’ orical splendor,
Paints magic—
A cape of sunsets
Alive at once with time.

Anne’s want and work:
To show the perfect script of nature
So much better—imperfect:

~Vine the land with ding of sweet, red fruit~
Ring a palette knife!
Let strokes express—
Plant parables…
Verve possibilities
{Create}

May the artist’s sylvan line
bles nature—
May nature’s light
bles the artist’s line.

This was my original artist statement:
Artist Statement for “Sun Drenched Vineyard”*, by Anne Cameron Cutri
Pennsylvania has so many beautiful rolling hills and when they are covered with vineyards, so
much more the better! Most of my work involves pure light. The “magic hour” in a landscape captures the splendor of our sunsets. Wine country and vineyards are metaphorical for scriptural parables and the land providing sweet fruit. Created with an impasto layering of paint
with a palette knife, allows me to let the strokes express the verve of plants alive with possibilities. It is at once abstract and realistic at the same time and shows the perfect imperfection of nature.
